Advice Day for SEND Families: Housing

Monday 17th November, 10.30 - 12.30pm, Chestnuts Community Centre (N15 5BN)

Tuesday 25th November, 6.30 - 8pm, online

In November, Kate, Sayeed, Cathy and colleagues from Haringey Advice Partnership led two sessions, one in the daytime and one online evening event, explaining housing rights, including things like repairs, mould, and applying for appropriate housing. Families were also able to discuss their issues with individual advisors.

We know from our membership how important housing is. One issue that came up repeatedly on the day was overcrowding, and the lack of availability of family-sized homes. This can be especially important to SEND families, whose children are often in serious need of a bit more space.

The team really emphasized how important it is, when negotiating with the Local Authority, private landlords or Housing Associations, to keep all your evidence together - photos, reports, emails and records of phone calls and conversations.

They’ve offered to come and do another advice session – let us know if there are topics you’d like them to cover. Email us: hello@sendpowerinharingey.org
