16 - 19 Year Olds

Is your child at or applying for 6th Form/other post-16 setting?

Haringey 6th Form Schools and Colleges

Years 10 and 11 are important years in secondary school, where children are growing up and starting to think about their futures.

Some young people with SEND will stay on at their mainstream or special school for 6th form, others will go to college.

Haringey SEND Working Together Charter

Parents/carers and practitioners have developed this charter.

It sets out the values that underpin good working relationships between practitioners and families – kindness, empathy, trust, safety and belonging.

The charter describes best practice and what, ideally, working together should look like:

  • feel welcome and cared for
  • feel valued and included
  • work in partnership
  • communicate together
Haringey SEND Working Together Charter. Families and practitioners as equal partners. A circle showing four colourful illustrated hands linked together. Circled around this graphic reads "kindness and empathy. safety. belonging. trust." There are four boxes in different colours. 1st box is purple and reads "Feel welcome and cared for. Provide a warm, caring, welcoming environment. Make time and space to get to know and understand our families' life experience. Be curious, find out, avoid assumptions. Promote access and remove any barriers." 2nd box is orange and reads "Feel valued and included. Acknowledge and value our families experiences. Recognise, build on and celebrate positives and successes. Empower all to express their views, thoughts and feelings. Get back to people in a timely way.". 3rd box is green and reads "Work in equal partnership. Have a shared commitment to work together from the start. Respect, accept, and value all views and contributions equally. Agree, plan, and review decisions and actions together. Follow up and provide feedback." The final box is pink and reads "Communicate together. Communicate with openness, respect, and honesty. Make time for communication. Enable everyone to take part without judgement. Acknowledge different views. Recognise that things can go wrong - find a way to re-engage and move forward." Preparing for adulthood

This slide show from a few years ago still has some useful info for you and your young person to consider.

The organisation Think Local Act Personal, together with the National Co-production Advisory Group, has written a report setting out practical recommendations that would help young people get the support they need to live well and stay in control as they become adults. It is rooted in lived experience. Read it here: Preparing for adulthood - TLAP

The Transitions to Adulthood (TTA) team at Markfield

The TTA offer volunteer mentoring to young people aged 16-25. They aim to:

  • Support young people with activities relating to their transition into adulthood
  • Help develop their confidence and independence
  • Provide support to help them achieve their goals

The meetings can take place either at the Markfield Project or out in the community to achieve goals or activities chosen by you.
