Have Your Say: Inclusive Education in Haringey

Wednesday 28th February 2024

Thanks to all the parents from across Haringey who came to St Ann’s library and gave their views about their experience of mainstream education to senior leaders, head teachers and the council.

Key themes parents raised included:

  • Emotionally based school avoidance – children who are unable to attend school because of anxiety
  • Impact on parents’ working life and income, with many parents having to give up their careers
  • Children being disciplined for things they can’t control, related to their SEND, such as fidgeting
  • Insufficient resources – parents reported that schools’ budgets are very stretched, and EHCP recommendations not implemented
