Health coffee morning
Wednesday 15th October, 9.30am - 11.30am at Chestnuts Community Centre (N15 5BN)
Thanks to everyone who joined our health themed coffee morning! It was lovely to see new and familiar faces.
It was great conversation around Haringey and London-wide/national health services and support and families experiences of accessing them.
We discussed Martha's Rule, as well as local health services here in Haringey and families experiences of them, while exchanging tips and strategies that families have found useful.
We also touched upon the Right to Choose where you have your NHS treatment; and also avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and what (limited) support is available to families here in Haringey. We may come back to this topic in the future.
Two health practitioners attended:
- Jane Grant, Head of Haringey Children and Young People’s Services & Audiology NCL (North Central London) at Whittington Health NHS
- Annie Bruce, Patient and Family Support Nurse - Martha's Rule, North Thames Paediatric Network
Jane talked about SEND Power's survey and how Haringey Health teams are responding to your comments and opinions.
Annie said: 'It was such a pleasure to be invited to attend the SEND Power Health coffee morning and raise awareness for Martha's Rule. Thank you to the parents that attended and shared their thoughts about what was important for us to take back to hospitals when rolling it out; mainly making posters visible and translated information.
Martha's Rule is a helpline within hospitals for you to call if you feel your family member is getting sicker and the medical team are not acting. Parents and family members often see signs of illness before tests do, and so it is important your voice is heard.’
